Born in 1984 in Belle Glade, FL, Holmes honed his football skills at Glade Central High School. He played college football at Ohio State, becoming a standout wide receiver. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Holmes caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals with only 35 seconds to go, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.
