Fullback. Tough. Leader. Steeler. Pro Bowler.
Get ready to welcome Roosevelt Nix, a fan-favorite Steelers fullback known for his relentless work ethic, physical play, and blue-collar mentality. A beloved figure in Pittsburgh, Nix brings the grit and heart that define Steeler Nation — and he’s set to bring that same energy to the Legends of Pittsburgh Cruise!
From Kent State Standout to NFL Pro Bowl Fullback
Born March 30, 1992, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Roosevelt Delbert Nix emerged early as a standout football player. At Kent State University, he became a dominant defensive force — earning four consecutive first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors, MAC Freshman of the Year, and MAC Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman. He finished his college career ranked near the top in school history with 24 sacks and 65 tackles for loss.
Steeler Journey — From Undrafted to Beloved Teammate
In January 2015, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Nix to a futures contract and transitioned him to fullback — a change that defined his NFL career. He made Pittsburgh’s roster that fall and quickly became known for his punishing blocking, special teams hustle, and self-less play.
Over five seasons with the Steelers, Nix appeared in 60 regular-season games, contributing as a blocker, receiver, and special teamer. He also scored his first career touchdown in 2017, showcasing his toughness and versatility.
Recognition & Pro Bowl Honor
Roosevelt’s impact was recognized league-wide after the 2017 season, when he was named a Pro Bowl selection (as a replacement) — a rare honor for a fullback and a testament to his value to teammates and coaches.
In 2018, the Steelers rewarded his dedication with a four-year contract extension.
Final Seasons and Retirement
In 2019, Nix was respected enough by his teammates to be voted a Special Teams Captain. A foot injury limited his playing time that season, and he was placed on injured reserve.
On March 18, 2020, Pittsburgh released Nix, and he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in April 2020, though he was released before the season started.
Roosevelt officially announced his retirement from professional football on July 13, 2021.

What made Roosevelt Nix stand out wasn’t just his versatility but his toughness, team-first mentality, and blue-collar approach — characteristics that perfectly embody Steeler Nation.
